Pope Paul VI – Novus Ordo
Lord, you are holy indeed, the fountain of all holiness. Let your Spirit come upon these gifts to make them holy, so that they may become for us the body and blood of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
Each of the three persons of the Holy Trinity have body, soul, and spirit.  In their image and likeness we also have body, soul, and spirit.  When language can distinguish between spirit and Ghost it seems better to use the term Ghost (His actual Hebrew name is Ruwach but Sacred Scripture commonly refers to Him as Ghost although recent translations uses the term Spirit) to recognize Him as being superior to ourselves.
Before he was given up to death; a death he freely accepted, he took bread and gave you thanks. He broke the bread, gave it to his disciples, and said:
said : past tense.  A moral ministerial priest is replaced by the High Priest, Jesus, during the consecration.  (in persona Christi)
Take this, all of you, and eat it: this is my body which will be given up for you.
If all were to eat the body of Jesus, some would be committing a mortal sin of sacrilege.  The living body of Jesus contains His blood, soul, and divinity.
When supper was ended, he took the cup. Again he gave you thanks and praise, gave the cup to his disciples, and said:
said :  past tense conveys message that the priest is not now "in the person of Christ" (Jesus).
Take this, all of you, and drink from it: this is the cup of my blood, the blood of the new and everlasting covenant.  It will be shed for you and  for all so that sins may be forgiven.  Do this in memory of me.
Jesus' shed blood does not benefit all.
Now let us acknowledge the mystery of faith.

PEOPLE:    Christ has died,
                    Christ is risen,
                    Christ will come
again.
The Mystery of Faith:   Jesus flesh is bread, His blood is wine.  Can the "Son of God" do that?   *
In memory of his death and resurrection, we offer you, Father, this life-giving bread, this saving cup.  We thank you for counting us worthy to stand in your presence and serve you.

Jesus is now offering His life at the Last Supper table, what is it we are offering?  Jesus, the mediator with the Father, is now present.  We should be talking to Him.
The proud stand in the presence of God.
May all of us who share in the body and blood of Christ be brought together in unity by the Holy Spirit.

Many are condemned by unworthily sharing.
Lord, remember your Church throughout the world; make us grow in love, together with N. our Pope, N. our bishop, and all the clergy.
Our pope and bishops are ministerial priests.
Remember our brothers and sisters who have gone to their rest in the hope of rising again; bring them and all the departed into the light of your presence.

Have mercy on us all; make us worthy to share eternal life with Mary, the virgin Mother of God, with the apostles, and with all the saints who have done your will throughout the ages. May we praise you in union with them, and give you glory through your Son, Jesus Christ.
Only faithfully departed share in the Beatific Vision.
Through him, with him, in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honor and glory is yours, almighty Father, for ever and ever.
All reply:    Amen.
Corrected Version - Vernacular
Father, You are holy indeed, the fountain of all holiness. Let the Holy Ghost come upon this bread and wine to bless them, so that they may become the living Body and Blood of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
The gifts, properly speaking, are our prayers, works, trials, etc., not the bread and wine that has been purchased from merchants. – The elements are consecrated, not just for us; They are the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus no matter how worthily or unworthily used now or in the future.
Before He was given up to death, a death He freely accepts, Jesus asks His priests to act in  (union / oneness)  with Him. Jesus takes bread and gives You thanks. He brakes the bread, gives it to His disciples and in persona Christi the priest says:
It is Jesus who is now saying to His disciples in all ages.  –  We are participating in the "Last Supper" event of Holy Thursday, 33 A.D.
Take this, you who are participating with Me, and eat: this is My Body which will be given up for you.
Only those who are in the state of grace may participate in (doing the good works we are given in this life) the offering consummated on Calvary.
When supper was ended, He takes the cup. Again He gives you thanks and praise, gives the cup to His disciples saying:
saying :  present tense – Jesus is now consecrating the wine.  Ministerial priest is "in persona Christi".
Take this, all of you, and imbibe of Me: for this is the Blood of the New Covenant that will be shed for you and for many  or  for those whose sin is to be forgiven.
imbibe = receive, absorb, assimilate. Stronger term.
Now let us speak to Jesus, our Lord and Brother.

PEOPLE:     Lord you have died,
                    Lord you have risen,
                    Lord you are here
again.
Jesus is ignored in Paul VI's mass.  He is spoken about instead of spoken to.  "Jesus is now present."
Lord Jesus, we offer You our works, sufferings, and prayers to be presented to the Father when He receives Your propitiatory offering on the cross of salvation.  This life giving Bread, this saving cup we firmly believe is Your Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity.
Jesus is now present, we are talking to Him, not to an abstract.  He is present among us.  He is eternal, universal and unlimited by space of time.  He is able take on any shape or form.  Our concern is to love God entirely; and then our neighbor as ourselves.
May all who worthily share in Your saving works be brought together in unity by the Holy Ghost for partial reparation of the outrages, sacrileges and indifferences by which You are offended.
We best offer our works when receiving Jesus.
Lord, remember Your Church throughout the world; help us grow in love, together with faithful priests and the community of faith.
Community of faith = The priesthood of the people.
Remember our brothers and sisters who have gone to their rest in the hope of rising again: bring them and all the faithfully departed into the light of your presence.
Have mercy on us all; count us worthy to share eternal life with Mary, the virgin mother of our Savior, with the apostles, and with all the saints who have done Your will throughout the ages. May we praise You in union with them, and give You glory through Your Son, Jesus Christ.
Jesus, a divine being, is the Son of God.
Through Him, with Him, in Him, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, all honor and glory is Yours, almighty Father, for ever and ever.
All reply:    Amen.

While all Catholic masses said or attended by those of good faith, are acceptable to Jesus, the revisions presented above are believed to be more in accordance with His will.

*  "Mystery of Faith" – Do we believe that Jesus is the Son of God?  Can we accept as truth anything that He tells us even though we do not understand it, or is presented in a manner that is distasteful to the senses?  The apostles stayed with Jesus because they believed, even though they did not understand.  Do we accept that Jesus can take on any form He chooses, i.e., transubstantiation.

John 6:35  Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst.

40 For this is the will of my Father, that everyone  who sees  the Son and believes in him may have eternal life

51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world."

52 The Jews quarreled among themselves, saying, "How can  this man  give us (his) flesh to eat?" 53 Jesus said to them, "Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you. 54 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day. 55 For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink.
60 Then many of his disciples who were listening said, "This saying is hard; who can accept it?"
John 6:66  As a result of this, many (of) his disciples returned to their former way of life and no longer accompanied him.  67 Jesus then said to the Twelve, "Do you also want to leave?" 68 Simon Peter answered him, "Master, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. 69  We have come to believe and are convinced that you are the Holy One of God."

For us Jesus' identity is Bread; Jesus' identity is Wine.  Jesus is   fully present   in each identifiable particle of consecrated Bread and in each drop of consecrated Wine.  Utmost respect must be given the particles that may be either Jesus' body or blood.  The corporal is to be folded with respect and placed on top of the chalice after the vessels are cleaned.  Never should a corporal be left on the altar.

Jesus presents to His and our Father His own and our offerings made throughout time and space that He has found worthy when through His ministerial priests He consecrates once all of the hosts (body) and wine (blood) that are to be combined with His one universal salvific offering that is consummated on Calvary when His body dies following crucifixion.  One collective offering made through one consecration taking place millions of times.  A ministerial priest consecrates in persona Christi.

'Mysterium fidei' is mentioned, since something is believed other than what is perceived; and something is perceived other than what is believed. For the species of the bread and wine is perceived, but what is believed is the truth of the Body and Blood of Christ and the power of unity and love.

¿ "why would Jesus, the Son of God, shed His blood (be crucified) for us" ?

Note:  The "Prayer over the Gifts" is commonly misleading or in error.
Problems with a few of the "Opening & Closing Prayers" also occur.

The four New American Bible (rev. ed.) passages
where the bread and wine are consecrated:

Mt. 26:26  While they were eating, Jesus took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and giving it to his disciples said, "Take and eat; this is my body." 27 Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you, 28 for this is my blood of the covenant, which will be shed on behalf of many for the forgiveness of sins. 29 I tell you, from now on I shall not drink this fruit of the vine until the day when I drink it with you new in the kingdom of my Father."

Mk. 14:22  While they were eating, he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them, and said, "Take it (ye or this. Jesus is not an it.); this is my body." 23 Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, and they all drank from it. 24 He said to them, "This is my blood of the covenant, which will be shed for many. 25 Amen, I say to you, I shall not drink again the fruit of the vine until the day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God."

Lk. 22:14  When the hour came, he took his place at table with the apostles. 15 He said to them, "I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer, 16 for, I tell you, I shall not eat it (again) until there is fulfillment in the kingdom of God." 17 Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and said, "Take this and share it among yourselves; 18 for I tell you (that) from this time on I shall not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes." 19 Then he took the bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them, saying, "This is my body, which will be given for you; do this in memory of me." 20 And likewise the cup after they had eaten, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which will be shed for you."

1 Cor. 11:23  For I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you, that the Lord Jesus, on the night he was handed over, took bread, 24 and, after he had given thanks, broke it and said, "This is my body that is for you. Do this in remembrance of me." 25 In the same way also the cup, after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me." 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the death of the Lord until he comes.

  • John 6:35-71  Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst. 36 But I told you that although you have seen (me), you do not believe. 37 Everything that the Father gives me will come to me, and I will not reject anyone who comes to me, 38 because I came down from heaven not to do my own will but the will of the one who sent me. 39 And this is the will of the one who sent me, that I should not lose anything of what he gave me, but that I should raise it (on) the last day. 40 For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him may have eternal life, and I shall raise him (on) the last day."
41 The Jews murmured about him because he said, "I am the bread that came down from heaven," 42 and they said, "Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph? Do we not know his father and mother? Then how can he say, 'I have come down from heaven'?" 43 Jesus answered and said to them, "Stop murmuring among yourselves. 44 No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draw him, and I will raise him on the last day. 45 It is written in the prophets: 'They shall all be taught by God.' Everyone who listens to my Father and learns from him comes to me. 46 Not that anyone has seen the Father except the one who is from God; he has seen the Father. 47 Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life. 48 I am the bread of life. 49 Your ancestors ate the manna in the desert, but they died; 50 this is the bread that comes down from heaven so that one may eat it and not die.
56 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him. 57 Just as the living Father sent me and I have life because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on me will have life because of me.
58 This is the bread that came down from heaven. Unlike your ancestors who ate and still died, whoever eats this bread will live forever." 59 These things he said while teaching in the synagogue in Capernaum.
60 Then many of his disciples who were listening said, "This saying is hard; who can accept it?" 61 Since Jesus knew that his disciples were murmuring about this, he said to them, "Does this shock you? 62 What if you were to see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before? 63 It is the spirit that gives life, while the flesh is of no avail. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and life. 64 But there are some of you who do not believe." Jesus knew from the beginning the ones who would not believe and the one who would betray him. 65 And he said, "For this reason I have told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by my Father."
69 We have come to believe and are convinced that you are the Holy One of God." 70 Jesus answered them, "Did I not choose you twelve? Yet is not one of you a devil?" 71 He was referring to Judas, son of Simon the Iscariot; it was he who would betray him, one of the Twelve.
