EUCHARISTIC PRAYER No. 2

Recommended Revisions that resolve problems
with the Novus Ordo Mass of Pope Paul VI

The Opening and Concluding Prayers have also been Revised
and Include some Latin as Optional for Universality.

The following may occasionally be read as an introduction to the Eucharistic Prayers :
Jesus, the High Priest, becomes present in authorized moral ministerial priests when the Holy Eucharist is consecrated. When priestly people receive Jesus they join their worthy offerings to His universal offering made on Holy Thursday, 33 A.D.
(Ex. 19:6; Mt. 26:26-28; Col. 1:24; 1 Pet 2:5-9)
The offerings at the Last supper are sanctified when Jesus dies on Calvary on Good Friday, 33 A.D.

Bell is rung one time       Priest, with hands extended says:
Father, You are holy indeed, the fountain of all holiness.
Hands are joined, then outstretched over the bread and wine, says:
Let the holy Ghost come upon this bread and wine to bless them,
      so that they may become
Hands are joined - makes the sign of the cross once over both bread and wine, says:
the living Body + and Blood of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

Hands are joined and speaking clearly and distinctly the ministerial priest says:
Before He was given up to death, a death He freely accepts,
Jesus asks His priests to act in (union / oneness) with Him.
Priest raises the pure white unleavened host to heart level and continues:
Jesus takes bread and gives You thanks.
He brakes the bread, gives it to His disciples
and in persona Christi the priest says:
Jesus, united with a moral ministerial priest, does not bow:
Take this, you who are participating with Me, and eat:
this is My Body which will be given up for you.                          Bell is rung three times

Priest takes Jesus and raises Him high in honor presenting Him to the congregation.
He returns Jesus to the paten and genuflects, or preferably kneels in holy adoration.

When supper was ended, He takes the cup.
Chalice, with sacramental wine, is raised heart level; the priest continues:
Again He gives You thanks and praise,
gives the cup to His disciples saying:

Jesus, in union with moral ministerial priests, does not bow.
Take this, all of you, and imbibe of Me:
for this is the blood of the New Covenant
that will be shed for you and for many.
(those whose sin is to be forgiven.)                                  Bell is rung three times
The chalice with Jesus is reverently shown to the people, then placed
on the corporal after which the priest again genuflects, or preferably kneels.

Priest:        Now let us – acknowledge the presence of our Lord Jesus.

PEOPLE:    A         Lord You have died,
                                   Lord You have risen,
                                   Lord You are here again.
Priest:        In humility let us thank our Lord Jesus, Who is now with us.

PEOPLE:    B         Lord, thank You for dying for repentant sinners.
Lord, thank You for attesting to resurrection.
Thank You, Jesus, for being with us this day.
Priest:        Now let us petition our Lord Jesus Who is present with us.

PEOPLE:    C         Dying You destroyed our death,
                                   rising You restored our life.
Lord Jesus, bring us to Your glory.
Priest:        Now let us associate with the saving work of our Lord Jesus.

PEOPLE:    D         When we eat this bread and share in Your Life,
Lord Jesus, Your death bears fruit
                                   toward Your return in glory.

Priest:        Let us address our Lord Jesus who is now present with us.

PEOPLE:    E         Lord, by Your cross and resurrection
                                   You have set us free.
You are the Savior of the faithful.
Jesus, we offer You our works, sufferings, and prayers
to be presented to the Father when He accepts Your
propitiatory offering on the cross of salvation.
This life giving Bread, this saving cup we firmly
believe is Your Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity.

May all who worthily share in Your saving works be
brought together in unity by the Holy Ghost for
partial reparation of the outrages, sacrileges and
indifferences by which You are offended.

    Lord, remember Your Church throughout the world;
help us grow in love, together with faithful priests
    and the community of faith.
In Masses for the Dead the following may be added:
Remember N., whom You have called from this life.
In baptism he (she) died with Christ:
In faith may he (she) also share His resurrection.
    Remember our brothers and sisters
who have gone to their rest in the hope of rising again:
bring them and all the faithfully departed
into the light of Your presence.

Have mercy on us all; count us worthy to share eternal life
with Mary, the virgin mother of our Savior,
with the apostles, and with all the saints
who have done Your will throughout the ages.
May we praise You in union with them, and give You glory
He joins his hands.
    through Your Son, Jesus Christ.
Jesus, on the paten and in the chalice, is lifted and the priest sings or says:
Through Him, with Him, in Him,
in the unity of the Holy Ghost,
all honor and glory is Yours,
almighty Father, for ever and ever.
All reply:        Amen.

When do Catholics believe that they see Jesus?
"For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him may have eternal life, and I shall raise him (on) the last day."  Jn. 6:40

The Last Supper, 33 A.D., is a completion, a fulfillment of the Passover of Jesus, the slaughtering of the innocent Lamb.  Through and with Jesus we escape the punishments of Hell as the descendants of Jacob escaped death by the blood of the unblemished lamb.

The whole concept of Mass seems to be misunderstood.  When it is said, "Do this in memory or remembrance of Me" Jesus is asking us to participate in His offerings for the good of His Church.

At the table of the Last Supper we are joining with the living Jesus who is making His lifetime offerings and asking us to share in His offerings to God when He makes His propitiatory offering on the cross the next day (Good Friday) at Skull Place.

During the "Last Supper" Jesus faces the people (apostles) telling them to participate with Him.

In giving us His Body (His entire being) Jesus equates this to, or willingness to share in the works He has done.

When giving us His Blood (also His entire being) Jesus is saying that when we are asked to suffer in some way for building up the Church and increasing the number available to enter Heaven we should be wiling to do so.  Keep in mind that a little suffering now is far better than eternal suffering after bodily death.

The "Last Supper" is not presented as theatrics or entertainment for this life, but is a place for instruction in the entire Word of God so that we are better prepared to enter into the next life.

It should be kept in mind that failure to do good,
when the opportunity is presented, warrants everlasting punishment.
Omission of good has the same ultimate effect as commission of evil.
Sins of Omission can be More Insidious than Sins of Commission.

The four New American Bible (rev. ed.) passages
where the bread and wine are consecrated:

Mt. 26:26  While they were eating, Jesus took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and giving it to his disciples said, "Take and eat; this is my body." 27 Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you, 28 for this is my blood of the covenant, which will be shed on behalf of many for the forgiveness of sins. 29 I tell you, from now on I shall not drink this fruit of the vine until the day when I drink it with you new in the kingdom of my Father."

Mk. 14:22  While they were eating, he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them, and said, "Take it (ye or this. Jesus is not an it.); this is my body." 23 Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, and they all drank from it. 24 He said to them, "This is my blood of the covenant, which will be shed for many. 25 Amen, I say to you, I shall not drink again the fruit of the vine until the day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God."

Lk. 22:14  When the hour came, he took his place at table with the apostles. 15 He said to them, "I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer, 16 for, I tell you, I shall not eat it (again) until there is fulfillment in the kingdom of God." 17 Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and said, "Take this and share it among yourselves; 18 for I tell you (that) from this time on I shall not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes." 19 Then he took the bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them, saying, "This is my body, which will be given for you; do this in memory of me." 20 And likewise the cup after they had eaten, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which will be shed for you."

1 Cor. 11:23  For I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you, that the Lord Jesus, on the night he was handed over, took bread, 24 and, after he had given thanks, broke it and said, "This is my body that is for you. Do this in remembrance of me." 25 In the same way also the cup, after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me." 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the death of the Lord until he comes.
